Healthy Minds NI Funding

Thu 3rd November 2011

Hands That Talk recently received funding from the Big Lottery Healthy Minds NI Fund.

Our project will highlight mental health issues within the Deaf Community. The project aims are to educate Deaf people about their own personal mental health, learn about and learn how to use self-care strategies and introduce different mental health organisations to the user group.

The project will support a range of activities that promote good mental health and well-being. The first part of the project started with a Mental Health Residential in which 20 people took part. During the wekend the users learned about positive thinking, CBT and relaxation techniques.

Projects to follow this include a Mood Matters Presentation, A Walking Club, Luncheon club, Photography course, Art & Craft course, and various information sessions from local mental health organisations.
